Supporting CPB

Hello everyone!

As you may or may not have noticed, we have added a "Donate" tab to CPB: Ning.  The costs of maintaining this virtual sangha on Ning are rising, and we humbly and with deep appreciation ask you for any monetary donation you might be able to give.  We are a registered 501c3 nonprofit organization and can provide you with paperwork for your tax-deductible donation.

We welcome any and all comers and questions.  Thank you for being with us here on…

George Carlin on Saving the Planet

Posted by Jai on October 20, 2011 at 7:58pm 0 Comments

An old yet provocative politically incorrect comedy bit. Some may glean some insight or value from it. While I don't agree with everything old George said, I do think humor has a way of putting controversial issues into a less rigid perspective. If nothing else it is pretty funny. /\/\/\ Jai

I thought some of you might enjoy this music video. Some of the lyrics are hard to understand but you can Google them. You don't have to agree with every word in it (I don't) but I think everyone can find some value in it. I love the deep flute in it.

Helping Japan

Hello everyone.

As you may or may not know, CPB traces its academic and practice lineages in part to the Soto Zen tradition and in part to the tradition of Ki Aikido.  For this reason, CPB is particularly concerned about the recent events in Japan.  Several agencies at work helping Japan have set up online donation.  Below is a link to a Yahoo news story about several such agencies.  If you are so inclined and able to do so, please donate (remembering to make sure that the…

Thanks, Mike. I'm taken back to the movie Saving Private Ryan.  I haven't seen it in quite a while, so I don't remember the exact words but the first and last parts of the movie show an aged Ryan at the gravesite…

Wonderful topic. I really liked your response Lee. I also have the same thoughts Meaghan.  My boss once told me..."if you don't have something named after you such as a building, park, or hospital wing, no one will mention your name…

I agree that we should all be in service to others, regardless of gender, race or other criteria.  But, we all have different gifts to share with others.  Maybe we are helping best by moving out of the way, or maybe by comforting the…

Both of these replies are wonderful and highlight some of the aspects of this phenomenon of angst which is experiences by almost everyone at one time or another.   Lynn, you hit the nail squarely with questioning the definition of significant.…

How Do We Value People? "Women and Children First!"

Am interested in opinions around the subject. On a web forum, operated and membered by supposedly pretty smart folks, the discussion of the current Italian cruise ship diaster rose - and specifically the issue of the captain's behavior.Used to be, chivalry reigned supreme and gentlemen gave up their places in lifeboats for ladies and children.  Based on what, nobody's certain, but perhaps because of either/both men's superior capacity to swim/tread water/survive and their place as protectors of…See More

I think this way from time to time as well, especially during times of depression.  We make such and impact in the lives of those around us, yet we feel like we're not accomplishing anything significant.  I think that the question you…
