Dharma Notes 4/9/09, given by Ren Cheng deshi, The Arrow of Birth, Aging, and Death

In this story Venerable Malunkyaputta did not asked the Buddha about the existence of the flying spaghetti monster but I think he would had responded the same way to the question. :-)

An Aum Lullaby

Recently as I watched baby Lance he became quite cranky. His tummy was full and diaper dry so I deduced he was sleepy. I took his little hand out of his mouth, gently place my hands on his arms, looked softly into his eyes and began the Aum mantra. To my delight he enjoyed very much and was fast asleep in just a few minutes.

Introduction

There didn't seem to be an Introductions forum per se, so I thought I'd post my general intro stuff here. People have already made efforts to welcome me, which I really appreciate!

As you probably noticed, my name is Danielle Gaither, although a look around this site makes me wonder if I have to take a Chinese name at some point. ;) I'm currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science from the University of North Texas. I found CPB through naturalism.org and like what I've read so far.

There is a Jewel Within Every Lotus

The radiating lines of the lotus leaf bring to mind the Dharma Wheel.

The holes, the yellowing, and the browning are reminders of impermanence.

The stalk raised the flower above muddy waters to remind us that we can do the same with our bodymind.

The tight petals of the bud reflect the gathering of the S… Continue

There could be a supremely intelligent being that "chooses" to stay out of creation, HOWEVER the issue is that this creates dualism, meaning that there are two separate realities now. So again either the Universe is One (as Buddhists and naturalis...

If there’s a designer that created the world then why he chooses to stay out of it so that the world dispute his existence ? A fashion designer displays his/her clothes on the run way but also chooses to wear it. jx............./\

Deep insights XB and I think part of the 98% unconciousness that Sensei speaks about cultivates sitting in the couch eating chips. That's why we meditate on awareness so that we could cultivate the opposite of this. jx........../\

Thanks Xi Bao, So... The short answer is no. I very much appreciate your consideration. I'm gonna focus on the present much more anyway. I think life's greatest value is to be found in the present. /\/\/\ Jai

Yes I agree Ju Xian. I think I am becoming more aware each day - experiencing the fruits of practive is opening my eyes once again! We will cultivate authentic awareness. We will practice the art of acceptance. We will employ skillful action. /\xl
